✓ Quick answer

How do I make the background of a picture transparent?

Upload the picture to RemovingBackground.io and the AI removes the background automatically. Leave the background set to 'Transparent' (the checkerboard) and download — you'll get a PNG with a real alpha channel that stays transparent in any design tool.

How to make your image background transparent

  1. 01

    Upload your image

Drop a JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC file into the uploader, paste it with Ctrl+V, or paste an image URL.

  2. 02

    AI removes the background

Our segmentation model finds the subject and cuts it out with soft, hair-level edges in a few seconds.

  3. 03

    Download or edit

Download a transparent PNG, or swap in a solid colour, a photo or a blurred background first.

Why PNG?

JPG files can't store transparency, so a 'transparent' JPG will always show a white or black box. PNG and WebP store an alpha channel, which records how see-through every pixel is. Our results use soft alpha at the edges, so hair and anti-aliased lines blend smoothly into whatever you place them on.

Popular uses for transparent PNGs
