It's one of the most common things I see on small business websites: a logo sitting in a white rectangle on a dark header. It's an easy fix, and it makes a site look instantly more professional.
First, check what you already have
Before you edit anything, look for an original logo file from whoever designed it. An SVG or AI file is ideal — those can be exported with transparency at any size. If you only have a JPG, or a PNG with a white background baked in, read on.
Making a JPG logo transparent
- Upload it to our logo background remover.
- Check the edges against a dark background in the editor — this is where halos show up.
- Download the PNG.
If the logo is small or blurry, run it through the AI upscaler first. A 4× upscale of a 200px logo gives the background remover much more detail to work with, and you get a sharper result for retina screens.
Which format where?
| Use | Best format |
|---|---|
| Website header | SVG if you have it, otherwise PNG |
| Favicon | PNG or ICO, square |
| Email signature | PNG (keep it under 100 KB) |
| Social profile | PNG or JPG on a brand colour |
| Vector (SVG, PDF, AI) |
Light and dark versions
A logo that works on white might vanish on a dark header. Make two versions: one for light backgrounds and one for dark. Often it's as simple as switching dark text to white.
FAQ
Can I get an SVG from a background remover?
No — background removers output pixel images (PNG). For a true vector logo you'd need it redrawn in a vector tool.
Why does my transparent logo have a faint white outline?
The original JPG had anti-aliasing blended with white. A good background remover cleans edge colours; if you still see a halo, upscale first and try again.
