Inside our background removal pipeline
Every image goes through four stages:
- Segmentation: BiRefNet predicts a soft alpha mask at 1024px
- Refinement: the mask is scaled to your image and refined with an edge-aware filter
- Decontamination: edge colours are re-estimated so old background colour doesn't bleed
- Export: PNG with alpha, or JPG/WebP with your chosen background
Background removal at scale
For catalogues and apps, the API takes the same parameters as the web tool — subject type, background colour, crop, output format — and returns the image directly. Failed requests are refunded automatically, and the same credit balance covers web and API usage.
